The Citizenship Council

The children take an active role in the community through our Citizenship Council. We believe strongly that adults should do nothing that children could do with support.

Our Citizenship Council has class members from across the school who have been elected democratically to represent the views of the class at regular meetings as well as lead on a range of committees, that are always under review in accordance with the children’s ideas. There are numerous examples:

Charity Council: responsible for selecting and supporting charity events across the school.  Every year, they select a local, national and international charity to support as well as organise events to support these worthy causes. We currently support Children in Need, Oxfam and Rowcroft Hospice. In the previous year, we have successfully fundraised to purchase a defibrillator to be located nearby to the school as a local charity event.

Play council: children access this with requests for improvements in the lunch and play provision, including zones, equipment and rotas. We have a committee of Play Leaders from older classes who support lunchtime play with younger children. These children are modelling effective play to the younger children, alongside promoting our school values through play and communication with the younger children.

Food Ambassadors: these children work very closely with the Play Leaders. Their role is to help in Coastal Café at lunchtimes, serving the salad bar, helping younger children and keeping water replenished.

Eco Warriors: involved with all aspects of energy conservation and the presentation of a healthy environment. This committee will thrive and grow throughout the year as we continue to consider our carbon footprint and make positive changes to ensure we are working towards our goals of sustainable living.

Library Team: supporting Mrs Williscroft and the daily running of the library. This is one of our upcoming councils which we are going to develop and expand during the Spring term of 2021-2022. Committee individuals will be trained to use the computer system in order to check out of books, as well as how to organise the returned books correctly to maintain the library system.

Tech Team: organising the stage, music, lights, microphones and props for our many shows that take place throughout the year.
