Long Term Plans

Great care has been taken in the design of our curriculum.

Our leaders have carefully considered what we teach, when we teach it and how we teach it, ensuring that our curriculum is purposeful, progressive and designed to support strong outcomes for all learners.

Our long-term plans have been carefully constructed so that subjects are taught at points in the year that reflect the calendar, make meaningful connections and maximise opportunities for children to apply and revisit their learning.

When a subject is being taught, children have the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in their learning. By reducing the need to continually switch their thinking from one subject to another, we aim to reduce cognitive load and allow children to develop a deeper understanding of the knowledge and skills being taught.

We have considered each subject individually and made deliberate decisions about the most effective way to teach it. Our curriculum is designed to promote strong outcomes, high levels of pupil engagement and long-term knowledge retention.

Learning Enquiries

The following subjects are taught as Learning Enquiries. Each enquiry follows a consistent format, supported by the guidance within our This Is How We Do It Here documents:

• Art
• History
• Geography
• Computing
• Design Technology
• Music

Whilst each subject has its own distinctive knowledge, vocabulary and disciplinary skills, the consistent approach ensures that children understand how they are expected to learn and apply their knowledge across different subjects.

• Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) – Key Stage 2
• Science
• Physical Education (PE)
