On Thursday we held the annual school “Class Swap Day” where the children meet their new teacher and share the day with their September classes, new friends and old.  Our Year 6 all go to their secondary schools on this day, making the move easy and so all the children spent their day in their new rooms as well to complete a series of activities that end up on display for when they return.

Years 5/6 theme was “Let’s get quizzical” with activities inspired by TV shows.  The children experienced box trials in the W.F.L. garden from “I’m a Celebrity”, a “Crystal Maze”, a spider web to clamber through, “Only Connect” puzzles to solve and an “Apprentice” scavenger hunt.  They also created art work in the style of each one of the TV shows they were looking at and wrote reports of their day.

The Years 3 and 4 worked from the children’s book “Eliot the Midnight Super Hero,” that was used to inspire the children to complete art work and creative writing as mini books, turning themselves into a child with their own created super hero characteristics.

In Years 1 and 2 the theme was “Space” based on the book “The Way Back Home” by Oliver Jeffers, about a boy who flies to the moon.  The children drew themselves as space visitors, and designed aliens.  The younger ones used play-dough to create green space alien models.

In Reception the theme was dinosaurs, which will support their new L.E. “Roar” in September.  This included creating their own artistic versions of themselves as dinosaurs such as a “Miss Claekeosur” with printing and painting.

At the end of the day, the tradition of meeting on the grass and having a lolly or ice-cream before returning to their “old” class and talking all about their day with their friends was observed!

We hope that every child enjoyed their day and had lots to talk about, making the summer less nervous and the return in September a little more exciting!
