Where the Eden Park journey begins

Our Nursery is where children begin their education journey at Eden Park. We welcome children from the term after they turn two until they start Reception, providing a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn.

We believe every child deserves the strongest possible start. Our dedicated practitioners build trusting relationships with children and families, getting to know each child's interests, strengths and individual needs. Through purposeful play, high-quality interactions and carefully planned experiences, we nurture children's emotional, social, physical and cognitive development.

Our vision is to enrich every child's potential, build strong foundations and prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey.

Our Curriculum

Our Nursery and Reception classes follow the Eden Park Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which is carefully planned and sequenced to ensure that knowledge and skills build progressively from children's individual starting points.

Our ambitious curriculum develops the foundations children need to become confident communicators, early readers, writers and mathematicians. Through short, purposeful group sessions, key-worker support, nursery rhymes, stories, songs and rich opportunities for play, children develop their vocabulary, curiosity, independence and love of learning.

Communication and language are at the heart of our approach. Skilled adults use high-quality interactions, informed by the EEF ShREC approach, to model language, introduce new vocabulary and extend children's thinking. Children develop early reading foundations through Phase 1 phonics, including listening, attention, rhythm, rhyme and sound awareness. They also begin to build mathematical understanding through progressive experiences with number, patterns, shape and problem-solving.

Our continuous provision is carefully planned to support the progressive development of skills. Resources and experiences are selected purposefully, with adults modelling and teaching key skills so that children can practise, revisit and apply their learning through play.

We have high expectations for every child, whatever their starting point. Our Nursery and Reception teams work closely together to ensure consistency, progression and a shared understanding of children's development. This creates a coherent learning journey from Nursery through to Reception, giving children the strong foundations they need to flourish in Year 1 and beyond.

Enriching Our Nurseries

A world of discovery, right on our doorstep

At Eden Park, we believe some of the most powerful learning happens outdoors. Our Nursery benefits from a purpose-built, Forest School-inspired outdoor learning environment, offering children an exceptional opportunity to explore, investigate and learn through first-hand experiences. This is a distinctive feature of our provision in Brixham, giving our youngest children opportunities to connect with nature, develop confidence and discover the world around them.

Our outdoor environment is much more than a place to play. It is a carefully planned extension of our curriculum, where every experience has a purpose. Children climb, balance, swing, dig, build, create and experiment, developing the physical skills, independence, resilience and curiosity that form the foundations for future learning.

From our treehouse, balance beams and tyre swings to our mud kitchen and natural exploration spaces, children are encouraged to take on challenges, solve problems, work together and use their imaginations. Practical experiences, such as sand exploration and car washing, develop coordination, fine and gross motor skills, communication and teamwork, while giving children opportunities to investigate materials, understand cause and effect and take responsibility for their environment.

Our skilled practitioners carefully plan and enhance these experiences to develop the Prime Areas of learning, particularly communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development. Adults model new vocabulary, introduce skills, ask thoughtful questions and extend children's thinking, while allowing time and space for independent exploration and purposeful play.

Through these rich experiences, children develop a growing appreciation of the natural world, broaden their understanding of their surroundings and build the confidence to try something new. Every opportunity is designed to nurture the whole child, supporting their wellbeing, friendships, creativity and readiness for the next stage of their education.

At Eden Park, outdoor learning is not an added extra. It is an essential part of how we enrich potential, build strong foundations and help our youngest children flourish.
