Year 2
In Year 2, our students continue to grow and thrive as they become more independent and confident learners, mastering key academic skills and building strong relationships with their peers and teachers.

Year 2
Welcome to year 2 at Eden Park. Our two classes are called Caterpillars and Dragonflies. We have two well-resourced spaces built to meet the needs of the children. We encourage collaboration, growth and independence through the curriculum and the environment in which we work. We have adapted additional workspaces to include breakout areas and quiet corners to help all children reach their full potential. We have access to our wonderful outdoor field area and use the sensory garden to help inspire learning further.
In year 2, we provide a supportive and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive. We have two year 2 classes, each with a passionate and skilled team of staff who work closely together to ensure the best possible experience for our pupils. Our goal is to build on the strong foundations laid in year 1 and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We continue to develop essential skills in literacy and mathematics through innovative approaches that match the needs of the children. Our teachers and teaching assistants collaborate regularly to plan exciting lessons to stretch the young minds that we are nurturing.
In year 2, we focus on encouraging creativity, independence and a love for learning, while ensuring that each pupil's confidence grows as theytake on new challenges. We believe in creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that allows each child to grow in confidence and enjoy their learning journey.
Our Curriculum:
Learning enquiries in the Year 2 curriculum play a crucial role in helping children engage deeply with a variety of topics. By structuring both long and short enquiries, the curriculum allows for a balanced approach, where they explore key concepts in depth while also broadening their understanding through a range of subjects.
Long Enquiries: These are in-depth, multi-faceted topics that span a half term or longer. They provide ample time to explore the subject from different angles and make cross-curricular connections.
Short Enquiries: These are typically more focused topics or themes that can be explored within a couple of days. They allow children to dive into specific aspects of a larger theme or subject, supporting rapid development of key skills in a certain subject
Enriching Year 2
In Year 2, we go on many exciting adventures! We visit the Cockington Sculpture Trail and make magical willow lanterns with local artists, then join the sparkling Brixham Lanterns, Lights, and ‘Luminations parade. Every week, we head outside for Wild for Learning—gardening, pond dipping, and exploring nature. We even visit Paignton Zoo to learn all about amazing animals!
