Year 3/4
In Year 3/4, we are a passionate and experienced team of teachers and support staff dedicated to ensuring every child has an exciting and enriching experience during their time with us.
Welcome to the Year 3/4 page.
Our Year 3/4area is home to three lively and welcoming classes—Dolphins, Seahorses, and Starfish. At the heart of our area is a communal working and reading zone, designed to encourage collaboration and nurture a love of learning. We also benefit from a dedicated extra classroom, which allows us to provide focused teaching and targeted interventions to support every child’s progress.
Although our classes are mixed-age, key subjects such as Reading and Maths are taught in separate year groups. This ensures that each child receives carefully tailored teaching that meets their individual needs and helps them reach their full potential.

Learning Enquiries
Our learning enquiries are a dynamic and integral part of the Year 3/4 curriculum. These cross-curricular topics encourage children to explore subjects in depth, making meaningful links with areas such as Writing and Science. Each half term, pupils take part in both a long enquiry and a short enquiry, with their learning enriched by exciting trips and visits from guest speakers.
Long Enquiries
These are in-depth, multi-dimensional topics that run over a half term or more. They give children the time to explore a subject thoroughly, encouraging rich cross-curricular connections and deeper understanding.
Short Enquiries
These are more focused topics that take place over a few days. They allow children to explore specific aspects of a broader theme, helping to develop key skills quickly and effectively.
Enriching
In Years 3 and 4, we enrich the children's learning through a variety of engaging experiences. These include visits to Kents Cavern, the local fish market, and Exeter Museum. Year 4 pupils also enjoy a one-night residential trip to Dartmoor. We explore our local town and beaches, using them as a basis to compare with other countries and cities. In addition, the children benefit from visits by multiple artists, bringing creativity and new perspectives into the classroom.
We are committed to helping your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring they leave Year 3/4 with fond memories and valuable skills for the future. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please feel free to contact us!
